mp3stream - Simple MP3 Streamer * Overview mp3stream is a script that allows a user to stream MP3 files to a remove client over the internet. * Installation Just unpack the archive, make sure mp3stream.pl is executable, and away you go! Note: you'll need to have working installations of both Perl (with the IO::Socket module) and LAME (available at http://www.mp3dev.org/mp3/) for the script to work correctly. * How It Works You give it a playlist (a file consisting of full paths and names of MP3 files, one per line), a server name ("Like This"), and a port to run on (8000 is the default) and then someone using WinAmp (http://www.winamp.com) or XMMS (http://www.xmms.org) or another MP3 player that supports the Shoutcast protocol can connect to your server and listen to the MP3s. * Known Problems - May choke on corrupted MP3 files. * Reporting Bugs, Suggestions, Etc. mp3stream is pretty close to complete, but if you find any bugs, or have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me (rfreebern@corknut.org) and let me know. I'm always trying to improve the script, if possible. -Ryan N. Freebern 15 Jan 2002
